INVESTIGATION OF PROCEDURES FOR TESTING GROUT FLUIDIFIERS

THIS STUDY IS PART OF AN INVESTIGATION ON PREPLACED AGGREGATE CONCRETE WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE REQUIRED MODIFICATIONS OF THE STANDARD METHODS OF TESTING GROUT FLUIDIFIERS FOR USE IN CERTAIN FLY-ASH CONCRETES. SOME OF THE MODIFICATIONS AND THEIR RESULTS ARE AS FOLLOWS' /1/ A SCALED-DOWN MODEL WAS SELECTED AS HAVING MIXING SPEED AND ACTION APPROACHING THOSE OF THE PROJECT FIELD MIXER. /2/ ALL TESTING STARTED AFTER THREE MINUTES OF MIXING. /3/ CONFINED TESTS ON 2-IN CUBES WERE FOUND TO BE SIMPLER AND MORE REPRODUCIBLE THAN TESTS ON 3X6-IN AND 6X12-IN CYLINDERS AND UNCONFINED 2-IN GROUT CUBES. /4/ WHEN THE MODIFIED METHODS DERIVED IN THIS STUDY ARE USED, THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS SEEM TO BE SATISFACTORY' REDUCTION IN WATER REQUIREMENTS, % /MINIMUM/ 3 , INCREASE IN WATER RETENTIVITY, % /MINIMUM/ 60, EXPANSION, % 5-12, FINAL SETTING TIME, HR /MAXIMUM/ 35, COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH AT 7 DAYS, % OF CONTROL /MINIMUM/ 90. /RRL/
