SOIL SURFACE COMPACTION WITH A FOAM-TYPE EXPLOSIVE

A FOAMED PROPELLANT METHOD FOR SOIL COMPACTION IS PROPOSED, A BLANKET OF THE FOAM BEING SPREAD OVER THE SOIL SURFACE AND THEN DETONATED. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ARE PRESENT WHICH SHOW THAT GRANULAR TYPE SOILS TO DEPTHS OF 15 IN BELOW THE SURFACE CAN BE COMPACTED BY THIS MEANS. LABORATORY BLAST PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS ARE EXAMINED. /RRL/
