CONTROL OF FILL COMPACTION BY MEANS OF PLATE BEARING TESTS ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE OF THE FAST ROAD CHALON-MONTCEAU-LES- MINES

THE PLATE BEARING TEST /GERMAN METHOD/ HAS BEEN USED TO CONTROL A LARGE SCALE CONSTRUCTION SITE IN GRANITIC GROUND, AT VARIABLE STAGES OF PROGRESS FROM CLAY TO COMPACT ROCK. THE ARTICLE DEALS WITH THE CONSIDERATIONS THAT LED TO THE CHOICE OF TEST PROCEDURE AND ASSIGNABLE STANDARDS, AND RESULTS OBTAINED ARE GIVEN. RELEVANT PROBLEMS IN APPLYING THIS METHOD TO COMPACTION CONTROL OF MOTORWAY SITES ARE REVIEWED.
