Western Offshore Drilling and Exploration Company brought WODECO II to Cook Inlet, Alaska, in 1962 and EODECO NSD 599 drilling tender, for a platform-tender. This platform operation made the original Cook Inlet oil discovery in 1963, at the north end of Middle Ground Shoal. Strain gauges provided data on stresses encountered from tides and ice. Design criteria for construction of 12 super platforms now in use in Cook Inlet were based on this data. WODECO IV made the oil discovery in Atlantic Richfield's North McArthur River field.
