Potential functions and stream functions for the flow of an incompressible and inviscid fluid about a prolate spheroid placed axially symmetric in a circular duct have been derived. Two methods have been considered. The first method gives the strength of an equivalent line distribution of sources. The second method directly gives the velocity distribution on the surface of the spheroid, by solving an integral equation involving Bessel functions. A computer program for solving the integral equation involved is presented. It is concluded that the velocity and pressure distributions about the body are not significantly affected due to the finiteness of the stream, unless the ratio of the diameter of the duct to that of the body is much less than 6.
