LABORATORY TESTS OF SHEARING RESISTANCE AT THE CONTACT OF TWO SOIL STRATA (IN POLISH)

SOME PRELIMINARY LABORATORY TESTS ARE DESCRIBED OF SHEAR RESISTANCE IN CONTACT ZONE OF SAND (COARSE OR MEDIUM) AND CLAY, IN DEPENDENCE OF THE HUMIDITY OF BOTH SOILS. ONE GROUP OF TESTS WAS DONE WITH A DIRECT SHEAR APPARATUS. OTHER TESTS WERE TRIAXIAL ONES, WHERE THE INCLINATION OF CONTACT PLANE OF TWO SOILS WAS 45 OR 60 DEGREES TO THE HORIZONTAL LEVEL AND THE LATERAL PRESSURE VARIED FROM 1 TO 4 KG/SQUARE CM. THE SHEAR RESISTANCE IN CONTACT ZONE DEPENDED ON THE HUMIDITY OF SOILS, DROPPING WITH THE RISE OF HUMIDITY. THE SHEAR ITSELF OCCURRED IN SAND WHEN HUMIDITY OF CLAY WAS SMALLER THAN 20 PERCENT AND OCCURRED IN CLAY WHEN HUMIDITY OF CLAY EXCEEDED 20 PERCENT. /AMR/
