Effects of Recycled Coarse Aggregate Replacement Levels on the Mechanical Properties of RAC

In this study, the mechanical properties of ready-mixed concrete with Recycled Coarse Aggregate (RCA) conforming to KS F 2573 were evaluated according to the replacement levels of RCA. The mixing types were composed of four series based on replacement ratios of RCAs 0, 30, 60 and 100%. Test result indicated that the variations of compressive strength of concrete with different ratios of RCA were not observed in case of being cured by standard curing methods. From the test results, preliminary conclusions can be drawn that the strength properties of RCA concrete is little affected by the replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate. On the other hand, compressive and splitting strength of test specimens with a dry curing method decrease as the recycled coarse aggregate replacement ratio increases. Elastic modulus and splitting strength of recycled coarse aggregate concrete show relatively low values compared with relevant provisions in ACI 318 for normal weight concrete.
