Effect of Slag on Chloride Transport and Storage Properties of HPC
The effect of blast furnace slag addition on the salt transport and storage properties of high performance concrete is studied in the paper. For the basic characterization of investigated materials, determination of bulk density, matrix density, total open porosity, and vacuum saturation moisture content is done. Determination of chloride ions storage is done using the measurement of chloride binding isotherms. The chloride transport is described by moisture diffusivity and chloride diffusion coefficient. The obtained data reveal the positive effect of blast furnace slag addition on the properties of the studied concrete. The addition of blast furnace slag leads to lower total open porosity of the studied material that takes effect on the deceleration of chloride transport. Based on this account, a prolonged durability and service life of slag modified high performance concrete can be anticipated.
