SEISMOLOGY AS A GEOLOGIC TECHNIQUE

SEISMIC SURVEYS CONDUCTED IN HIGHWAY LOCATION AND DESIGN ARE PRESENTED. THE USE OF THE SEISMIC REFRACTION METHOD IN THE SURVEYS IS DESCRIBED. DETERMINATIONS OF BEDROCK DEPTHS, SOILS, GRAVELS, ETC., ARE DESCRIBED FOR BRIDGE FOUNDATIONS AND LOCATION OF FILL. DIFFICULTIES ARE ENCOUNTERED IN SEISMIC SURVEYS IN SWAMP LANDS AND IN DENSELY POPULATED AREAS. IN POPULATED AREAS, IN GENERAL, PRACTICE IS MADE TO COVER ALL BLAST SHOTS WITH A BLASTING MAT.
