A comprehensive approach to carbon neutrality in toll roads
Transport is a significant contributor to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that cause climate change. To meet the infrastructure needs of the country, the Indian government has planned to construct toll roads on a massive scale. But construction and maintenance of roll roads contribute more greenhouse gas than that of conventional roads. Hence the need of the hour is to promote carbon neutral toll roads to make the environment clean and green. In this paper the authors have made an attempt to present the concept and various issues related to carbon neutral tolls roads that can play a role in the achievement of national targets for reductions in GHG emissions. International and national scenarios in the field of construction and maintenance of toll roads has also been presented.
