THE REPRODUCIBILITY OF THE RESULTS OF SOIL CLASSIFICATION AND COMPACTION TESTS

AN INVESTIGATION WAS MADE TO ASSESS THE REPRODUCIBILITY OF SOIL-CLASSIFICATION AND COMPACTION TEST RESULTS. THE REPRODUCIBILITY OBTAINABLE BY ONE OPERATOR, OPERATORS WITHIN ONE LABORATORY AND OPERATORS IN DIFFERENT LABORATORIES WERE ALL EXAMINED. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT REPEATABLE VALUES WITHIN AN ACCEPTABLE DEGREE OF ACCURACY COULD BE OBTAINED BY ONE OPERATOR BUT THE REPRODUCIBILITY WITHIN A LABORATORY AND BETWEEN LABORATORIES WAS NOT AS GOOD AS EXPECTED. THE REASONS FOR THIS LACK OF REPRODUCIBILITY ARE DISCUSSED, AND SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE FOR IMPROVING THE SITUATION. /RRL(A)/
