CARRYING OUT AND EVALUATING PROCTOR TESTS ON SOILS /IN GERMAN/

THE PROCTOR SOIL COMPACTION TEST HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY CRITICIZED AND IMPROVED IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES. IT IS SHOWN THAT, IN THE CASE OF THE COMPACTION TESTS STANDARDIZED IN THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC, THE COMPACTIVE EFFORT IS STILL INSUFFICIENTLY DEFINED AND THAT VARYING RESULTS ARE THEREFORE ATTAINED. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROCTOR NEEDLE PENETRATION RESISTANCE IN THE EVALUATION OF TRAFFICABILITY, GRAIN SHAPE AND COHESIVENESS OF SANDS IS EXPLAINED AND ILLUSTRATED BY EXAMPLES. FINALLY, IMPROVED CONVERSION FORMULAS ARE DEVELOPED FOR PROCTOR DENSITY AND OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT. /FG/RRL/
