THE USE OF THE EQUIVALENT FOR THE EVALUATION OF FINE GRAINS IN SANDY GRAVEL AND AGGREGATES (IN GERMAN)

THE SAND EQUIVALENT TEST WAS FOUND TO BE SUITABLE FOR EVALUATING THE COHESIVE FINE GRAINS OF NATURAL SANDS AND GRAVELS, AND OF AGGREGATES USED FOR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES AND CONCRETE. THE TEST CAN ALSO BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH GRAIN ANALYSIS FOR CONTROL OF QUALITY AND UNIFORMITY OF SUCH SOILS AND BUILDING MATERIALS. PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS ARE NECESSARY IN OPENING UP SAND, GRAVEL AND ROCK DEPOSITS AND IN DRESSING THESE MATERIALS, IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE PERMISSIBLE LIMITING RANGE OF THE SAND EQUIVALENT. FROM THE LIMITING VALUES, THE QUALITY OF THE MATERIAL CAN ALSO BE CHECKED CONTINUOUSLY DURING USE ON THE BUILDING SITE BY MEANS OF THE SAND EQUIVALENT TEST. /RRL/
