SUBMERGED PUMP MEETS CHALLANGE IN DEEP DREDGING

Two types of pumps that have been used for dredging are the hull mounted centrifugal pump, and the suction jet booster, the latter being used for deeper dredging depths than the former. With the advent of deep draft vessels, a dredging system capable of digging deeper channels was required. Neither of these systems are capable of digging deep channels efficiently, so the submarine slurry pump was developed to fulfill this need. This pump is more efficient at deeper depths than either of the other pumps are at shallower depths. A complete description of the pump is presented, with an explanation as to how it operates.
