Safety improvements based on existing wireless communication facilities
Dynamic development of 2G (second generation), 2G+ (second plus) and 3G (third generation) mobile communications and wireless Internet open up new possibilities for ITS applications oriented to improving traffic safety and security. In transitional countries without e-road facilities, traffic engineers have to evaluate several solutions for traffic/transport safety application based on GSM, GPRS, GPS and WAP technologies. The paper discusses the existing wireless network facilities applicable to emergency call, assistance in case of incidents, safety readiness, vehicle security and others.
