Advantages and limitations of storage silos for hot mix
The concept of hot mix storage has found general acceptance throughout the world because of savings in production and transport costs that can be realised from its use. Because of the great variety of plant options and auxiliary equipment available, the capital costs of this equipment, the complex nature of the economic factors involved for profitable operation, the choice of plant installation and location is one which requires detailed feasibility analysis and consultation with expert authorities. The principal aims of this paper are: (a) to provide a brief outline of the economics of hot mix storage; and (b) to summarise some of the practical problems and limitations likely to be experienced with this type of plant (a).
