Highway landscaping - salient factors - toward a better understanding
This paper is paper no 1, session 1. The purpose of this paper is to bring into clearer focus the need for a better understanding of the essential elements that combine to form the basic fundamentals of the art and science of highway landscaping. It is seen that there is a need for continued and better education, cooperation and understanding between the road designer, and construction engineer and the landscaper to ensure that the full realisation of such an intrinsic part of highway construction is successfully achieved in the final concept. There is a moral responsibility not only in regard to the needs of the motoring public but to humanity as a whole, to see that both geometric and aesthetic amenities are satisfactorily achieved.
