Acquisition of land for roads: problems of current practices and future needs
This report deals with the growing land requirements for roads today, especially in urban areas, and the consequent financial and social problems for both governments and governed. It examines historical trends in land ownership in Australia and current land acquisition procedures. Schemes for raising and using special acquisition funds and countering undue land speculation are examined in the context of road and other public requirements, including betterment levies and coordinated planning for city extension or redevelopment.
