Rural trip generation
This paper represents work done as a part of a research programme into regional trip generation techniques. The intention is to develop a set of techniques suitable for predicting trips within a defined region. The application of the gravity model, multiple linear regression and category analysis has been examined in considerable detail and an attempt has been made to objectively compare these techniques to determine which are suitable. It has been found that the gravity model poses some difficult problems, while category analysis and multiple linear regression (using the household as the unit of analysis) appear to be quite promising (a).
