LINEAR THEORY FOR OPTIMUM LIFTING-SURFACE SYSTEMS

A linear theory is given for optimum lifting-surface systems working in an incompressible and inviscid fluid. These systems are assumed to carry out periodical motions. They deliver prescribed mean values of forces or moments at the cost of smallest possible energy losses. The concept of the ideal propeller is discussed.
