Introductory remarks to session h19, bituminous surfaces - skidding and durability
This paper briefly analyses the following papers: the correlation of chemical and physical properties of bitumens with their road performance (jamieson=il and hattingh=mm); a quick method of measuring the surface texture of aggregate (orchard=df; yandell=wo and lye=br); the contribution of stone size and orientation in skid resistance (ross=tf); use of an epoxy resin/ synthetic aggregate system to impart skid resistance to selected road surfaces (sutton=jrc).
