SHORTAGE OF STANDARD METHODS FOR SOIL COMPACTION

EXPERIMENTS HAVE SHOWN THAT THE STRUCTURE AND STRENGTH OF SOIL IS DIFFERENT WITH COMPACTION BY STATIC OR IMPACT LEADING, EVEN THOUGH THE DENSITY AND THE MOISTURE CONTENT ARE THE SAME. DEVIATIONS MAY AMOUNT TO 25 - 40 PERCENT. THIS IS THE REASON WHY IN LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS EFFECTIVE STATIC METHODS FOR COMPACTION MUST BE USED. THE COURSE OF THE PROPOSED INVESTIGATIONS MUST BE INDICATED AND PRESSURE BY PRESSES APPLIED. BOTH NONREINFORCED AS WELL AS SOIL REINFORCED BY BITUMEN OR CEMENT, CAN BE EXAMINED. SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF PRESSURE, WHICH GUARANTEES THE STANDARD DENSITY OF THE SOIL IS REGISTERED AS 200 KG/SQ CM FOR SANDY SOILS; UP TO 150 KG/SQ CM FOR LOAM SOILS, AND AS 100 KG/SQ CM FOR DAY SOILS. MOREOVER, IN THE EXECUTION OF THE TEST SIMULTANEOUS ASSESSMENT OF THE ELASTICITY AND DEFORMATION MODULUS IS POSSIBLE. COMPARISON IS MADE WITH THE RESULTS ACCORDING TO EXISTING METHODS AND ADVANTAGES OF THE PROPOSED METHODS ARE DESCRIBED. /FG/RRL/
