Guidelines for future research and development

This paper represents a listing of the most pressing research directions in the area of the development and application of travel choice and travel demand models, as decided by participants in the workshop. The participants identified eight major topics for future research: behaviourally defined measurement and utilisation of attributes of transportation service in the planning process; modelling constrained policy options; problems of aggregation and classification; compatibility between travel demand models and the present transport planning package; data requirements; the overall travel decision making process; behaviour of special groups; and predictive capabilities of various modelling structures.
