Organisational structure for transport planning in the US: california and massachusetts
This report is a review of the organisational structures for transport planning in the United States. Two states, california and massachusetts, were chosen for examination since they have undergone radical changes in their organisational structures since 1970. The trend has been towards regional organisation, public participation and social and environmental impact studies. In order to comprehend the changes that have taken place in the United States' transport planning field, it is necessary to understand the terms 'project', 'corridor' and 'systems' planning. These terms are defined in detail in the report. Essentially they refer to planning at different degrees of detail and at different areal scales.
