Predicting per cent compaction
This paper outlines research into the relationship of Texas triaxial test data to field densities achieved for a particular compaction procedure, in this case 16 passes of a 35 tonne pneumatic tyred roller. It is shown that a material's stiffness as measured in the Texas triaxial test at certain specified laboratory test conditions can be used to predict the field density level for this type of compaction. This predicted density level can be modified if necessary to allow for field compaction procedures other than the one adopted in this investigation.
