Ringwood traffic survey

A traffic survey was carried out in the ringwood city area (a part of metropolitan Melbourne) by the Australian Road Research Board from December 3 to December 18, 1964. The survey had three purposes: (a) to supply traffic data to a pavement evaluation research project which was carried out simultaneously in the area; (b) to produce a traffic volume flow map and learn the regularities of the traffic in the area, for the purpose of assisting road planning and design, and traffic engineering operations; (c) to study the possibilities of an overall traffic volume survey of Melbourne or other metropolitan areas of Australia. This report gives an account of the results of the survey and its implications, after a short review of the design and execution of the survey (a).
