Engineering refraction seismic surveys
In contrast with earlier developments, seismic refraction equipment available today is simpler, more portable and relatively inexpensive. Some types of the available equipment have been used by the Department of Works. These include the single channel timer, the transistorized twelve channel seismograph and the conventional seismographs. Each type of equipment has its limitation and these must be considered with respect to any particular requirement. The use of seismic refractive techniques on site investigations has proved most useful when used in conjunction with drilling or other methods of direct exploration (A).
