Factors influencing the wear of coarse aggregate in the Los Angeles test

The methods to be adopted in applying the los angeles test in Australia have until recently been published as appendix e to AS a77-1957, 'aggregates for concrete', but now they appear as a separate standard AS a130-1963, 'Australian standard method of test for coarse aggregates using the los angeles machine'. This paper records some of the considerations taken into account by the committee when drafting the new standard.
