Current practices of guardfencing used by Australian state road authorities
The difference between the warrants for, and the installation details of, guard fences and median barriers currently used by Australian state road authorities are discussed in this report. The author does not recommend a practice to be followed by all authorities, but rather recommends that road authorities work towards a common practice that will provide a consistent degree of safety throughout Australian roads. To work towards this end, accident severity data and exposure rates for accidents involving guard fences need to be collected.
