Quality control of dimensions in construction; widths in urban roads
This report deals with the variabilities achieved in pavement width and kerb and channel width of 22 urban roads constructed recently under the supervision of three city councils in the eastern suburban area of Melbourne. Repeatability, reproducibility and the confidence limits on test measurements are given at the 95 per cent probability level. Tolerances on the dimensions examined are not usually specified. The average confidence limits of the mean of +-50 mm (pavement) and +-20 mm (kerb and channel) seem reasonable when compared with the usually specified width tolerances of +100 mm, -50 mm for major rural roads (a).
