Racv travel time

This paper is a review of the data gathered by two travel time surveys conducted by the royal automobile club of Victoria in 1971 and 1976. As the two surveys were not identical in relation to the routes covered, test runs for 12 routes only have been analysed. All the routes studied showed an overall increase in travel time. Of particular interest was the inclusion, for the first time, of off peak data. Travel times during this period were longer for some routes than in peak periods. The need is expressed for increased arterial route management and for a further travel time survey to investigate interzonal and other non CBD orientated trips.
