TRAFFIC FORECAST BASED ON ANTICIPATED LAND USE AND CURRENT TRAVEL HABITS

EXPANSION FACTORS DETERMINED WERE PUNCHED IN TRIP CARDS FROM AN ORIGIN-AND-DESTINATION SURVEY CONDUCTED IN 1948 TO PRODUCE THE FUTURE TRAVEL PATTERN. THE PRINCIPAL STEPS IN THE PROCEDURES WERE DETERMINATION OF (1) TOTAL TRIPS TO TAKE PLACE WITHIN THE AREA; (2) FACTORS TO PUNCH IN EXISTING CARDS TO YIELD THE TOTAL TRIPS; AND (3) FINAL FACTORS TO ALTER THE TRIP DISTRIBUTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH EXPECTED UNEQUAL CHANGES IN MAJOR TRAFFIC GENERATORS. FROM PREVIOUS ESTIMATES, THE FUTURE SIZE OF CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICTS, INDUSTRIAL AREAS, PORT FACILITIES, AND OTHER MAJOR TRAFFIC GENERATORS WERE OBTAINED AND TRIPS DESTINED TO THESE AREAS WERE PROPORTIONATELY REDISTRIBUTED. /AUTHOR/
