Development of the Ford Australia 1976 3.3/4.1 litre 6 cylinder engines

With the advent of ADR 27a exhaust emission control requirements on July 1 this year, ford Australia introduced a 'cross flow' cylinder head design on the 3.3 Litre and 4.1 Litre 6 cylinder in line engine range. Although this design is by no means unique, this paper was prepared in response to a request to outline the development of this engine as it is one of the few that has been designed and mass produced solely in Australia. The 1976 1/2 model year engines represent the latest development on an engine range that was first introduced into Australian production in 1960 as a 144 cubic inch (2.4 Litre) four main bearing in the xk falcon.
