RELIABILITY OF CONTROLLABLE PITCH PROPELLERS
The main requirement to be met by a controllable pitch propeller system is a very high reliability in fulfilling its purpose, which can be described as 'Change of pitch when you want it'. Besides, from a totally different aspect, high reliability and easy maintainability are necessary in order to cut down maintenance and operating costs. Various types and classes of failures which directly affect reliability are defined. Some examples are given and failure modes and frequency of failures are evaluated.
