Bituminous flush sealing: part 1

Bituminous flush sealing can be broadly described as a surface treatment for roads utilising a thin layer of binder usually bitumen, incorporating a mat of aggregate. The binder provides a bond to the granular basecourse, a waterproof membrane and an adhesion agent to hold the aggregate in place. The aggregate is the wearing course, renders the surface skid resistant, and transfers the wheel loads to the basecourse (a).
