Workshop on the geology of quarries, ARRC, February 1977; proceedings

The workshop commenced with an outline of the need for the involvement of geologists in the extractive industries. Session 2 was a panel discussion on the geology of Australian quarries, in which outline descriptions were given of some of the rocks being used and some of the problems being encountered. In session 3 the processes and the influence of weathering on rock properties are outlined, with examples from Australian quarries. In session 4, methods of exploration and evaluation of quarries were described, with a case history on a local quarry.
