Forecasting pavement performance - final report on ARRB project 229

This report is an account of an investigation of methods of forecasting pavement performance for unsealed roads in tropical areas. It is based on a study of materials from the eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea. Pavement performance had, in the absence of suitable records, to be assessed by the mechanic breakdown of road materials by exposure to traffic. Relations will be given relating geotechnical and other soil properties to mechanic breakdown, relationships with traffic parameters and composite relationships involving all of these parameters.
