Seasonal changes in the strength of rural road pavements in coastal north Queensland
This is a discursive enquiry into the problem of weakening of coastal north Queensland's roads during the wet season. Potential sources of water entry into pavements are identified and then the results of an extensive benkelman beam survey of changes in pavement strength over the severe 1973-74 wet season are summarised. The seriousness of this weakening is judged with respect to standards derived from studies in more temperate areas of Australia.
