Workshop on the future of urban passenger transport in Australia - 1978; summary report

Background or external factors affecting the future of urban passenger transport were considered, followed by what can and should be done in terms of operational initiatives and the distribution of resources. There was a clear consensus that more information should be sought about what makes up public transport deficits. This would indicate which particular tasks are being subsidised and would assist in making decisions about public transport. There is also a need for low cost solutions to urban passenger transport problems. There is considerable scope for productivity improvements and specific ways of increasing the efficiency of urban transport systems are suggested.
