Reinforced earth construction at Bondi Junction bypass

At Bondi Junction, in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the Department of Main Roads is constructing a bypass 1.4 Km in length comprising a combination of viaduct structure and embankment roadway approaches. The approach embankments are retaining walls utilising 3453 m2 of the reinforced earth retaining wall technique. This paper outlines the economic considerations which led to the selection of viaduct and reinforced earth. The practical aspects of construction of the reinforced earth are detailed. (A)
