A computer simulation of the in plane behaviour of brickwork

A finite element model for the in plane analysis of brickwork is presented. This model reproduces the non linear characteristics of brickwork by considering it as a continuum of elastic bricks acting in conjunction with inelastic mortar joints possessing limited shear and tensile capacity. The experimental tests necessary to define and verify the model are also described. (A)
