A Bayesian design for stratified sampling in road accident analysis: application to studying the effectiveness of newly introduced priority road system 'METCON'

One of the problems encountered in road accident analysis, and in particular investigation of accident proneness, is that of controlling for exposure. Comparison between the accident involvement of various individuals is meaningless unless accurate exposure data are available. With this in view the authors have developed a Bayesian approach to stratified sampling from infinite as well as finite populations. An application of the results obtained has been shown to the study of the effectiveness of the newly introduced priority road system 'METCON' in Melbourne, Australia. (A)
