St Vincent's (Melbourne) course for young drinking drivers
The aim of the course is to help drivers gain a better understanding of the risks involved in excessive drinking, and in combining this with driving. The course consists of 4 2 hour sessions held weekly, and cover the effect of alcohol on driving, and increased accident risk; drink driving laws and how the breathalyzer operates; physical effects of alcohol, short term and long term, and how one becomes dependent, experiences of aa members, and how they have learned to manage the problem. The course seems to be having an effect of reducing the conviction rate of drivers who attend.
