Traffic management in urban areas

The road system in urban areas is coming under increasing pressure, from the need to facilitate the community's travelling requirements on the one hand, and trying to cope with the desire of local community groups and councils to achieve an improved residential environment by closing selected roads on the other. The solution to these problems is a two part process requiring, firstly, the development of an adequate arterial road network incorporating a high level of management in the local street system to restrict traffic.
