The planning study for the port augusta - nt border section of the stuart highway

This paper concerns the planning study undertaken to determine the route for the South Australia section of the stuart highway from port augusta to the Northern Territory border. It provides a brief description of the study and outlines some of the problems to be faced in route selection in remote areas and how these were overcome. The methods adopted were scarcely revolutionary, yet if recording them leads others to build on this work or to develop new approaches, the paper has been worthwhile. (A)
