Report on the use to date of crushed rock as a basecourse in the north east division

This paper reviews the use of crushed rock for roads in the north east division of the Department of Main Roads, New South Wales. The development of DMR NSW specifications for macadam and subsequently for fine crushed rock are outlined. Locally available materials include chert, sandstone, river cobbles, columnar basalt and conglomerate. The use of mobile crushers to produce crushed rock (up to 100 mm maximum size) as an alternative to stabilisation is outlined (a).
