Occupant restraints

This paper traces the developments which have taken place over the last few years in the seat belt technology in Australia and describes in some detail todays occupant restraints for adults and children. A broad discussion is included which covers overseas trends and also the likely path which restraint systems will evolve in the future. The paper highlights a very serious problem on replacement of worn or stressed belts in the adult area and highlights deficiencies in technology and legislation in the child restraint area (a).
