Frayed nerves or freight centre? towards a rational movement of freight in Melbourne

This report explains how action can be taken not to redirect but to remove traffic, particularly heavy transport trucks from the streets in our communities. This would reduce congestion, city noise and air pollution and at the same time improve efficiency and working conditions in the freight industry. A number of recommendations are made in this report illustrating the wide range of options available. It draws together evidence on energy, efficiency, economics, transport regulation and the hidden costs of problems borne by the community to present a realistic assessment of the economics of the freight industry.
