Limit state design of bridges - a review of studies in the United Kingdom and Australia
Investigations by the author and others in the United Kingdom have shown that the adoption of limit state design methods could permit savings of up to 40 percent in the cost of typical bridge superstructures. Several Australian bridges have been analysed and redesigned by limit state methods under the author's direction and it has been shown that savings of the same order are possible in Australia.
