Matching fuel to tomorrow's engines

The optimisation of the vehicle engine and the oil refinery to achieve an economic utilization of Australian resources is important as 38% of crude oil is used as petrol. The capital investment and energy usage in the joint system is closely related to the pool octane level of the total petrol pool. To calculate the future fleet weighted petrol consumption three steps are involved, (1) the determination of the octane requirement of vehicles (2) the calculation of the weighted fuel consumption for the present fleet. (3) The projection of future octane quality to minimise either investment/ cost or energy usage.
